01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Set along a quiet street in Higashi-Jujo, 9 trip cafe brings together regional ingredients and traditional flavors from across Kyushu in an easygoing, everyday cafe setting. For a hearty midday meal, the Miyazaki-style chicken nanban plate is a dependable option, slow-fried at low temperature in the authentic local manner. Tender Japanese chicken breast is coated in rich tartar sauce, served alongside soup, salad, and a choice of drink for a genuinely satisfying lunch.
The rice selection is equally broad and evocative of travel, spanning Amami keihan (shredded chicken, egg crepe ribbons, and sweet-simmered shiitake mushrooms enjoyed over rice with savory chicken broth), a slow-simmered Kagoshima kurobuta pork cartilage curry, and rice bowls topped with mentaiko, pickled takana greens, and shirasu whitebait. Noodle dishes also feature prominently, including Japanese-style pasta accented with fragrant Oita yuzu kosho and a thick-noodle Hakata mentaiko cream pasta, letting diners tailor their meal to the mood of the day.
Evening Hours with Small Plates and Regional Drinks
Come evening, tables fill with distinct small plates presented as "Kyushu tapas." Diners can graze on drink-friendly bites such as refreshing Hakata vinegar offal (su-motsu), sesame-dressed Fukuoka goma saba mackerel, and potato salad prepared with Ajimu ham from Oita Prefecture. The drinks menu complements the food with regional honkaku shochu, Kumamoto's spiced shochu Cardamon Take Seven, Ajimu wine from Oita, and refreshing sour cocktails made with Saga Hoshouju lemons.
Afternoon Tea and Regional Confections
The cafe is also set up comfortably for those dropping in purely for tea and sweets. Desserts showcase regional specialties, led by a stone-roasted sweet potato mont blanc parfait that layers house-made sweet potato cream, soft-serve made with fresh milk direct from Saga's Kaze no Bokujo farm, and Nagasaki castella sponge cake, alongside Hyuganatsu rare cheesecake and Yame matcha mont blanc. Enjoying these alongside a cup of aromatic Yufuin kuromoji herbal tea or freshly brewed coffee makes for a restful break from a busy routine.
The interior feels airy and calm, and the outdoor terrace seating accommodates visitors with pet dogs. From an unhurried solo lunch to evening tapas shared among friends, the space offers an inviting local perch for experiencing the culinary richness of Kyushu without leaving Higashi-Jujo.
